We’re so excited to welcome you to the RPI community. As you prepare for this exciting journey, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Starting at a new university can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry—we’ve outlined some key steps to help make your transition as smooth as possible.
Step 1: Activate your RCS ID⚙️
Your Rensselaer Computing System (RCS) ID is used to access RPI systems. {% if {{PIN}} != '' %}To activate your RCS ID (which is needed to gain access to most RPI computing services), you will need your 16-digit PIN and the instructions below:

After activation, visit this section for detailed information on enrolling in the required Duo Multi-Factor authentication and accessing RPI systems including your RPI email, Student Information System (SIS), registering for your Box account and other important university systems. RPI email will be your primary way of receiving official updates, including billing and financial aid.

Step 2: Order Your Laptop 💻
Reserve your laptop through RPI! You get a top-tier laptop designed for your RPI academic pursuits and an RPI branded backpack at a highly discounted price. They come with the best support services including free loaners to ensure you’re never in a bind. Laptop options will be available by the end of April, and ordering through SIS will follow. More Key Dates & Steps to Keep in Mind ✔️
- April 6-May 29: Complete your housing application and roommate selection.
- June 5: Register for Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond (NRB)—your first chance to connect with classmates!
- By June 12: Submit required Health Center forms.
- By July 10: Upload your photo for your RPI Campus ID.
- By July 31: Send your official final high school transcript to the admissions office.
- Prepare for Tuition Payments: Review eBill access and payment plan options. Bill is due mid-August.
- Finalize Financial Aid: Accept/decline your aid in SIS and submit any required documents.
- Set Up Direct Deposit: For refunds and payroll in SIS.
